Bioscope 1: The birds, the bees, and the lush greens

It was an evening filled with exuberance: of the lawns and the powerful opinions that Paromita Vohra brought with her for Futurebrands’ Bioscope series’ first presentation: ‘Paro-Vaani.’

Paromita is a well-known documentary filmmaker, writer, teacher, actor, feminist, founder of agentsofishq.com and is equally enthused for a game of Antakshari.

We found out more about her life and experiences when she engaged in a tête-à-tête with Lipika Kumaran. From her learnings as a documentary filmmaker in the 80s to how interactions work with the people she interviews to the struggle of understanding and finally depicting lives one hasn’t lived, she also went on to discuss how we as a society talk about sex.

True to her expression, she broke the stereotype of small-town women and their perspective on sex in comparison to the tightlippedness of the Indian heterosexual male. 

What stuck beyond the conversation was her take on the fatigue of Tinder as it becomes less transgressive and the possible longevity of apps like shaadi.com as they evolve to the tastes of a 'swipe' generation. 

Even the screening of her short ‘The Amorous Adventures Of Shakku And Megha In The Valley Of Consent’ that had overtones of the concept of consent added to the already engaging discussions beyond the food, drinks and the clock.
