At Futurebrands we love telling stories. It could be a visit to the Mysore zoo or the changing nature of Indian cities, any story can be told beautifully, if the right tools are given to the right people.
On 15th September, Delhi office of Futurebrands hosted Ankur Choksi, Principle & Co-founding Partner Studio Lotus, to tell us his story of designing in India.
He started his talk by telling us that meaning gets created when people sit together. Ideas come out of the collective genius of everyone, and hence design always starts with conversation. Before pen is actually put to paper there are a lot of conversations to pull out the ethos of a person or a brand. You could be designing Rohit Bal’s premium store in Emporio, Delhi or Godrej’s model city in Vikhroli Mumbai, or a brand experience center for a sanitation brand, an aesthetic emerges out of conversations.
Designing a store for the renowned fashion designer Gaurav Gupta, it was important to know that he thinks of himself as a humble tailor. It was this understanding of the person and the brand that led to the key motif of his store being the classic tailor’s scissor.
What follows in the design process is the hard work of crafting the idea into physical form. But every project starts with a conversation, which needs the right tools and the right people, to turn into a beautiful story.
